Can you solve the mysteries of God? Can you discover everything about the Almighty? (Job 11:7 NLT)
I never cease to be amazed at the arrogance of those who believe that they have the complete truth about God or that some specific belief that they hold is perfect.
Perhaps we could liken God to a huge ocean and we are standing on the shore pondering the depths of that body of water before our eyes. If you’ve ever watched any documentaries on the topic of “ocean” you’ll soon find out how mystified are even the best scientists are in really understanding what exists and what is going on in the depths of those waters. Think about the infinity of the universe which defies any human imagination.
As I read the “This we believe” statements of various religious organizations I’m astounded how arrogant that they can appear to be. I visited a “Spirit filled” church once locally and no one spoke to me or gave me any recognition whatsoever but they made sure that they handed me an “information package” which gave a schedule of services and their “This We Believe” statement. I left that service feeling kind of sad because I could have used a hand shake or a hug more than a statement of belief. I’ve never returned.
I visited another church in which I was not allowed to take communion until I had a personal interview with the pastor to ascertain if my beliefs about the topic were exactly correct.
I’m finding that it is wise to have a heart filled with humility and keep in mind that to actually experience God’s love is the most important thing of all in our search for truth. What do you think?
